Clear Capital Takes it to the Top to Sponsor the Amgen Tour of California Bike Race

Truckee-Based Company Sponsors Stage 1 and Stage 2 of Eight-Day Tour de France-Style Road Race

TRUCKEE, Calif. – May 6, 2011 – Clear Capital (clearcapital.wpengine.com) announces the company will sponsor the Amgen Tour of California’s Stage 1 and Stage 2 King of the Mountains (KOM) cycling competitions, which is awarded to the fastest climber. The Tour of California is the largest cycling event in the United States, challenging the world’s top professional cycling teams to compete along a demanding eight-stage course from May 15-22.

“Clear Capital looks forward to the chance to partner with events like this to help bolster the economic vitality of the Truckee and Lake Tahoe communities,” said Kevin Marshall, President of Clear Capital. “We want to bring awareness to Amgen’s Breakaway from Cancer initiative; plus encourage family, friends and colleagues to come out and watch a fun event and support this important cause.”

Stage 1 of the Tour of California starts May 15 in South Lake Tahoe, circles Lake Tahoe one-and-a-half times and finishes after 118 miles in The Village at Northstar, just a few minutes away from Clear Capital’s Truckee headquarters. Stage 2 takes place May 16, with racers starting at Squaw Valley. They will race through Truckee, over Donner Pass and finish 133 miles down the road in downtown Sacramento. The eight-day race finishes near Los Angeles one week later.

For the race’s first two stages, the King of the Mountains competition is highlighted at three “mountaintop” intervals: Emerald Bay, Brockway Summit and Donner Summit. At the end of each of these two stages, the KOM points leader will be awarded a KOM leader’s jersey and $2,000 from Clear Capital. The combination of challenging climbs, unpredictable weather and elevation (each mountain pass summits at roughly 7,000 feet above sea level) is sure to create fierce competition and have a large impact on the race’s overall results.

“The strength, speed and determination of these racers epitomize Clear Capital’s ‘wherever it leads, whatever it takes’ attitude,” said Marshall. “Clear Capital, being one of the largest employers in the Tahoe Truckee region, is excited to support our local community as it welcomes the sponsors and athletes in this year’s Tour.”
